Statement from 51±¬ÁÏ President Melby

Jun 04, 2020

June 4, 2020

I have been made aware of accusations of sexual assault against current and former 51±¬ÁÏ students that were shared on Twitter. I take this very seriously. Violence and abuse are against everything 51±¬ÁÏ stands for.

I am also aware that tweets were blocked on the official 51±¬ÁÏ Twitter account. The blocking of tweets was wrong. The block was removed this morning. It is against our policies and training and it is being dealt with now.

To allow students to share concerns confidentially, the 51±¬ÁÏ Cares and 51±¬ÁÏ Counseling Services Office are setting up a confidential conversation for Monday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. An email will be sent with details on how to join the conversation. Students will be able to talk about concerns in a confidential environment and receive information on and assistance with filing complaints.

The 51±¬ÁÏ Police and 51±¬ÁÏ Title IX Office have opened cases based on the tweets that were shared. If you have direct information to share on these cases or any other case, please contact one of the offices listed below.

51±¬ÁÏ Title IX –
51±¬ÁÏ Police – police@ollusa.edu
51±¬ÁÏ Cares – ollucares@ollusa.edu

The safety of our students is my top concern and sexual misconduct cannot be tolerated. I promise these situations will be investigated thoroughly.

Sincerely,
Diane E. Melby
President
